Laloo at Steven Alan

laloo eco-friendly clothing
From Gretchen's Closet:

In case you were looking for another organic cotton, sustainable fashion clothing line, here's the latest: Laloo. Okay, so I'm not THAT excited about this one, but we all need basics, and these are good starting pieces if you're trying to build an organic cotton/sustainable fashion wardrobe. Laloo was created by Rashida Jones (from the Office) and her business partner, and featured in Lucky this month. You can buy it online at Steven Alan.

There's really not much to the line, just very basic pieces, great for layering, and some cute dresses. At least it's relatively affordable; nothing over $100, which is unusual for most celebrity clothing lines these days...

I love the detailing on the back of this tank, although it's very hard to see from the picture:

Rashida Jones' TV Guide Q&A

Pick up the latest issue of TV Guide which features an interview with Rashida Jones discussing her new show 'Unhitched' which premieres March 2.
Congrats after years of dues-paying, you hit it big as The Office's Karen - aka She Who Dared Come Between Pam and Jim - and now you're the leading lady in he Farrelly Brothers' gleefully gross sitcom Unhitched. How's it feel?
It's very exciting but a big responsibility. I can't just come in and be sassy and leave, ya know? But I took the role because the pilot script made me laugh out loud. It's got realistic characters but it's broad and shocking in a way that's like,"You won't believe what just happened to me: I was on a date and this monkey just jumped on my back and tried to rape me."

And that's just in the first five minutes folks!
I'd gotten pretty cynical about comedy because there's not a lot of great scripts, and because I'd been in the best comedy on television. The Office spoils you but Unhitched seemed right, because it was so different from The Office.

Agreed. So what are the Farrelly's like?
They're amazingly awful and awfully amazing! [Laughs] Like, the first time I met Pete, he hugged me and tried to unhook my bra.

In Unhitched you play a suddenly single divorce lawyer who, along with three newly dumped best buds, is horrified by the realities of dating. Do you relate?
Well, dating has become a sport and not about finding the person you love. But I'm very conservative: I want to be with my soul mate forever. That was the intention every time I entered a relationship.

Which brings us to the rumor that you're dating your former Office co-star, John Krasinski. Since you were recently quoted as saying you didn't think anyone in history ever had profited by talking about their personal life, we don't suppose we could get a tiny confirmation?
Of course not. [Laughs] Didn't you just read that quote.

But don't you pine to be in the tabloids alongside Britney Spears or Michael Jackson?
Oh, yeah, it is my deep desire to be hounded by people who want to see me fail. To me, Michael Jackson is the great American tragedy. Look what we've done to him and to Britney-where's the responsibility? It's terrifying to think that you stop even trying to be a person in the real world because you're afraid to be accosted. As a sensitive person, I'm gonna have to find a way to not be as affected by it as I am.

In your Office days did you get scary hate mail about being "the other woman"?
It was divided but I did get drunk girls going, "Pam is better!" And if you seek it out on the internet - which I did - you will find something terrible about yourself!

One chat-room quote I found read "Despite my overwhelming jealousy of Rashida Jones and my general dislike of Karen, I have to say the actress is pretty cool.
See? Look how many stipulations I had to make it through for that person to like me!

Surely your dad, Quincy Jones, and your mom, Peggy Lipton, gave you some advice on navigating Hollyweird, no?
As much as my parents are a part of Hollywood, I have no recollection of them giving me advice about it. The truth is that my dad grew up incredibly poor in Chicago and my mom is a Jewish Long Islander so, really, for them the focal point was creating a normal community for me.

So you went to Harvard intent on becoming a lawyer. Were your parents shocked when you ended up an actress?
No, because they're weirdly, unconditionally proud of me. My Dad travels the world with, like, press clippings of me in his pocket. He's so sweet, he's edible.

Rashida Crushes on Wentworth Miller and Dishes on Love and Life

Wentworth Miller

Rashida Jones is the coolest actress ever. Upon arriving at our office to discuss her new series Unhitched – which chronicles the dating misadventures of four best buds – she graciously accepted the cupcake I presented for her Feb. 25 birthday and proceeded to chow down without hesitation. I always appreciate a fellow petite gal who loves to eat! After bonding over our mutual appreciation for Prison Break’s Wentworth Miller, The Office star alum dished on her new show and her own love life.

On Unhitched you play Kate, who is a bad dater.

She’s just the most incapable, naïve, idealistic and stupid dater, and she doesn’t know it. She was with a guy for seven years, so it’s been a long time since she’s had to navigate the murky waters of dating, especially now since it’s changed so much.

The show is by the Farrelly brothers, who are known for their gross-out comedies. Were you prepared for that?

Generally I wouldn’t say that’s my jam, but they do it well by creating really well-rounded characters. So when something weird happens, like monkey rape or sleeping with an air guitarist, you feel something for these guys.

You’re the lone girl in a cast of four. How do you handle all that testosterone?

Guys are just straight up. If you’re cool with them, they are seriously loyal and really honest and fun to be with. I love that. For this particular group of guys, they are just so much fun and ridiculous. Honestly, and I know this sounds weird, but I think they just see me as another dude. That would be the biggest compliment. My hair and makeup just take a little bit longer.

What’s your worst dating experience?

I’m not a big dater, so I don’t have horror stories, but I got dumped a lot in college. A guy broke up with me saying something about planting a flower and not having enough sunlight for it to bloom. That was pretty lame. I was like, “Just do the deed, and we’re done. I don’t need your long Harvard metaphor, please.”

This role is so different than the one you played on The Office.

I didn’t want to do anything that was even similar in tone to The Office because its particulars – the one-camera shooting and uncomfortable tone – it doesn’t get any better than that. On Unhitched there’s a lot of physical comedy. Once they saw I was good at acting embarrassed, they just started throwing food all over me and having me felt up. It felt different enough for me to be challenged, and the script made me laugh so hard.

Are you still a fan of The Office?

I’m a huge fan and eternally grateful for the opportunity. Hopefully do it again at some point. Karen still works for the company.

Your Office storyline might have been your worst dating experience.

That’s true – being emotionally and psychologically cheated on, and then being dumped in front of all of America! I actually had a ton of anxiety about Karen coming between Jim and Pam before the show aired, that I was going to get threatened or egged, people so wanted them together. There were a few supporters who felt like even though they wanted to dislike Karen, they couldn’t. The fact that my character elicited so much emotion from fans in a physical way, that’s flattering too. But I did get yelled at on the street!

You dated your co-star John Krasinski. Are you still close?

He’s still a great friend. It’s not very often you can work with an ex-boyfriend so clearly. That’s a huge testament of what a great person he is.

He recently directed you in a movie.

It’s called Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, and it’s about what every woman knows about men but doesn’t want to admit to herself. It’s twisted but good.

What is John like as a director?

He’s such a great motivator. It’s a tricky thing to be a director because you have to get what you want, but you have to do it in a way that that person wants to give it to you. I guess there are similarities in a relationship and directing. He’s fantastic; really skillful, honest and direct.

Are you looking for someone special?

I’m so happy for all the career things that are happening for me right now and I think it needs my full attention, so I’m cool with that.

Rashida Loves Harlow Winter Madden

From OK! Magazine:

When actress Rashida Jones heard her good pal Nicole Richie was expecting her first baby, the Office star knew exactly what to get the mom-to-be.

“I’ve known Nicole since she was 3,” Rashida, who was there for Nicole’s Wizard of Oz-themed baby shower in November, tells OK!. “I got her a really cute diaper bag that my friend makes from the line Not Rational, and some maternity stuff.”

Rashida, who’s about to star in the new Fox series Unhitched, was thrilled that Nicole and her partner Joel Madden donated their baby shower gifts to young mothers in need through their recently formed Madden-Richie Foundation.

“When we were leaving the shower, there was one of those huge valets shipping out the gifts,” Rashida, 32, tells OK!. “It was cool.”

Both Rashida and Nicole are children of music legends — Nicole's father is singer Lionel Richie and Rashida's pop is award-winning producer and composer Quincy Jones, who also happens to be Nicole's godfather.

And what about Nicole and Joel's 2-month old baby girl, Harlow? Rashida says she's "just the most perfect little thing!"

Filipelli's Return To 'The Office' Imminent

From givememyremote.com:

Rashida Jones Goes Back to THE OFFICE

Rashida Jones has a new gig as Kate is Fox’s new comedy UNHITCHED which will be premiering on March 2nd and I promise I’ll have all the scoop on that show later this week. But come on now, until UNHITCHED premieres Rashida Jones is still Karen Filippelli - Regional Manager of Dunder Mifflin-Utica, and most importantly ex girlfriend of Mr. James Halpert, Assistant Regional Manager of Dunder Mifflin-Scranton. And if there’s news on THE OFFICE…well I think we need to discuss, no?

Jenna Fischer let it spill a few months back that it was in the plans for Rashida to be returning to the show as Karen. But that was before the writers strike. So is the plan still on? Yup, and according to E!’s Kristin Dos Santos, Rashida will be appearing THIS season!! As in at least one of the 6 episodes that will be returning on April 10th.

So indulge me if you will…let’s talk about why Karen would be coming back? Is she going to be causing some problems for Jim & Pam, or will it just be Dunder Mifflin official business?

Theories please!!

Rashida Jones: 'Unhitched' is Raw and Irresistible!

Watch Young Hollywood's interview with Rashida Jones and the rest of the cast of her new show 'Unhitched' which premieres on March 2nd.

Speaking about her new role on 'Unhitched', Rashida said:
"I play Kate, who is a divorce attorney and I basically am the only girl in this group of like, kind of, miserable, single guys. [After 'The Office'] I didn't think I would do something so raw where in the first five minutes of the show the main character gets raped in the butt by a monkey but - butt! - it made me laugh so hard that I was like, 'I can't not do this show'."

Rashida Jones' Letter To Tupac Shakur

The year was 1993, long before Tupac Shakur and Rashida Jones became close personal friends, before he was making tracks with her brother QD3 and before he was engaged to her sister. Their paths crossed amidst controversy when Shakur slammed Rashida's father Quincy Jones and dismissed his distinguished career because of his interracial relationships. Those were fighting words and Rashida, who was a teenager a the time, came out swinging. Here is the open letter she wrote to in response to Tupac:
Because I am the youngest of Quincy Jones' six daughters, I cannot view this article or this man without bias ["War Stories" by Kim Green, Aug, '93]. But I do think that anyone who reads this article would be shocked by his ignorance and lack of respect for his people. Like Tupac, we have witnessed the struggle of many young Black men. Their hope and promise seems to lie in the progress made before them by prominent Black figures throughout history. To demean a man like Quincy Jones, a man who came from the ghetto of Chicago and through his talent and perseverance became a living music legend, demeans the whole progress of African Americans. Tupac's vindictive actions should not be glorified as "where hip-hop originated from". Many young Black people use music to vent their frustration. Tupac's lyrics suggest that he uses music as an excuse to justify his stupidity and ignorance. This artist and his music are in no ways, as the article puts it, "responsible"; he is purely self absorbed and indulgent. Tupac, if you learn one lesson, let it be that at least my father took the time to look at how fucked up life would be if he didn't get his shit together early on. Where the hell would you be if Black people like him hadn't paved the way for you to even have the opportunity to express yourself? I don't see you fighting for your race. In my Opinion, you're destroying it and shitting all over your people.

Rashida Jones
Los Angeles, CA
After this letter was published, Tupac sought out Rashida and apologized for his remarks. The pair struck up a friendship and Rashida saw a side of the young artist unknown to his public. She learned his poetry and invited him to assist her on her sociology project while she was at Harvard. Rashida and Tupac fondly debated each other (see 'Thug Angel: The Life of an Outlaw') and she recently described him as "an intellectual".

After his tragic murder in 1996, Rashida paid tribute to her friend by setting the words of one of his poems to music on the track 'Starry Night' with her father and Mac Mall.

Special thanks to L. and the Rashida Jones LiveJournal Community for the hook up :)

'Unitched' Photo Shoot Promo Video!

From I'm A TV Junkie:

"For all of you who have been looking for your post-The Office Rashida Jones series, this is it, and it's from the Farrelly brothers, who, although they really struck out with their most recent Ben Stiller film The Heartbreak Kid, seem to have at least enough show to make a compelling trailer, and these days in television, that's a lot.

From the Fox press release:

Jack "Gator" Gately (Craig Bierko) is a charismatic, optimistic guy who never expected to be single again. But now that he is, he’s determined to make the best of it until he finds “the one.”

Joining Gator in bachelorhood redux are his best friends: thrice-divorced Tommy (Johnny Sneed), the founder and brewmaster of an upstart microbrewery, who has a voracious appetite for food, beer and women; and Dr. Freddy Sahgal (Shaun Majumder), a successful surgeon who can execute a triple bypass in his sleep, but is all thumbs when it comes to the opposite sex.

Rounding out the group is Kate (Rashida Jones), a smart, successful attorney who handled all three of the boys’ divorces. Having just turned 30, Kate finds herself dumped after a seven-year engagement and reluctantly joins the guys in negotiating the treacherous waters of dating. With Kate owning the brownstone next to Gator’s, this pair, over time, may find that “the one” is just a brick wall away.

This series, btw, was previously known as The Rules for Starting Over, so you might want to update that list of TV show titles you carry around next to that 12-year-old condom in your wallet.

As you probably know by now, I'll give anything that promises to make me laugh a shot. Which is probably why I never understand when this "sitcoms are dead" period washes over us every few years.

This one has a great creator pedigree and solid performers. I expect that you'll all at least give it a try. I wanna see big sampling numbers for this, so I'll be reminding you about it until it airs in March. The premiere date is Sunday, March 2, probably after a new Family Guy ep their holding just for the occasion (at least that's what I would be doing if I were them)."

6 Degrees of Rashida Jones: Barack Obama

Barack Obama

The Connection: Rashida and Senator Obama are both Harvard alumni...Rashida's hero Oprah Winfrey is campaigning for him...Oh, and the Senator has twice graced the cover of VIBE - the magazine founded by Rashida's dad, Quincy Jones...etc...

Details: What more can one say about a person who Neil Young asked to run for president and who valiantly accepted the challenge? Barack Obama has already changed the world's perception of what is possible and he's not even in the White House yet!

In the Senator's own eloquent words:
"...If you will join me in this improbable quest, if you feel destiny calling, and see as I see, a future of endless possibility stretching before us; if you sense, as I sense, that the time is now to shake off our slumber, and slough off our fear, and make good on the debt we owe past and future generations, then I'm ready to take up the cause, and march with you, and work with you. Together, starting today, let us finish the work that needs to be done, and usher in a new birth of freedom on this Earth."
For more information visit barackobama.com and regardless of which candidate you choose don't forget to vote.

'Unhitched' Hits TV Screens On March 2!

From USA Today:

Coming attractions: 'Unhitched' unleashes Farrellys on TV USA TODAY

Take a couple having sex, add an aroused orangutan, and you've got an opening scene worthy of a Farrelly Brothers film. That it's in a network TV comedy, Unhitched (Fox, March 2, 9:30 p.m. ET/PT), might raise some eyebrows.

When you start with a menagerie a trois, "you know you're in good hands. We're going to push as far as we can on network television," says Peter Farrelly, an executive producer who directed the pilot with his brother, Bobby.

Unhitched follows the dating adventures of three newly single men (Craig Bierko, Johnny Sneed and Shaun Majumder) and their divorce lawyer (Rashida Jones). The writer-directors, making their first foray into series TV, have made notes on scripts and plan to direct an episode or two each season should Unhitched be renewed.

The secret for pulling off the outrageous? "If there's a certain sense of broadness, you can get away with a little more. … more than if it's for titillation," Peter says.

Grouch Chronicles Jonesinski Sighting

A sullen reader at defamer.com relates:

" Jim and Karen have not broken up -- they're eating cupcakes and ham and brie sandwiches at Joan's for Sunday brunch. Rashida Jones has the "I'm dating a famous guy" act down -- making sure John Krasinski's hat is pulled way down, the white V-neck shirt properly untucked, and is shielded from the gaze of the 3rd street public by positioning him away from the door and covering the blind side with backs to the rest of the diners. RJ clearly knows how to coddle a male star ... ordering the food, aggressively finding proper seating, etc.. They sat at the community table and it looked to be a cause for serious concern. RJ is pretty cool looking -- severely moisturized olive skin, greenish-blue-something or other color eyes, knee high boots with a grey, slightly frumpy hipster dress, taller than I thought she would be (my expectations were low -- for some reason I thought she was half midget) -- and seemed like one of the boys, cracking jokes and laughing when expected to. Bravo. Krasinski -- sporting huge, gigantic, monster, shield-your-eyes-white chopper teeth, a freakishly large smile, surprisingly tall and lanky -- looks like a cartoon character, not a human being. It's impossible to state how ill fitted his mouth is to the rest of his head. It takes up about 50 % of the space above the neck. They were with two geeks."
